Step-By-Step Installation Guide

TOOLS:

  • Utility knife
  • Tape measure
  • Tapping block and rubber mallet
  • Underlayment (if required by your subfloor)
  • Straight edge
  • Level
  • Broom and dustpan
  • Pull bar (optional)

ACCLIMATION:

Place your COREtec planks in the room they will be installed in to allow them to acclimate to the room's temperature and humidity.

Allowing 48 hours for acclimation before installing them can help ensure a smooth installation process.

SUBFLOOR PREPARTION:

1) Clean: Ensure your subfloor is clean, free of debris, dust, dirt, grease, and any materials that could prevent proper adhesion.

2) Flat and Level: The subfloor must be flat and level within 3/16" per 10' radius. Sand down any high spots and fill low spots with a suitable patching compound.

3) Moisture Testing: Test your subfloor's moisture content according to the COREtec installation guide. If moisture levels exceed the recommended limits, address the source of moisture before proceeding.

PLANNING THE LAYOUT:

  • Measure the length and width of your room.
  • Decide on the direction you want your planks to run. Ideally, planks should run parallel to the longest wall for a more spacious look.
  • Dry lay out a few rows of planks to check for alignment and planking order.

INSTALLATION:

1) Maintain a 1/4" (6.35 mm) expansion gap around the perimeter of the floor to allow for natural expansion and contraction. Use spacers to maintain the gap during installation.

2) If required by your subfloor type, install the underlayment according to the manufacturer's instructions.

3) Undercut doorjambs to allow for clearance of the flooring planks.

4) Begin installation by laying the first plank in the corner of the room, leaving the expansion gap along the wall.

5) Use the plank's locking system to connect subsequent planks. Angled tapping with a rubber mallet and tapping block helps secure the connection.

6) Use a pull bar (optional) to secure the short ends of the planks. Stagger the short end seams for a random appearance.

7) Use a sharp utility knife and a straight edge to cut planks as needed.

8) Continue laying rows, tapping planks together and maintaining the expansion gap.

9) Use a tapping block and mallet to carefully tap the last row into place. You may need to cut the final plank to fit with the remaining space.
